Tigers Too Day Nursery
Tigers Too is a friendly, homely day nursery in the centre of Thatcham, just around the corner from the High Street and only minutes from the A4, M4 and the train station with its direct links to London, Reading and Newbury. With its happy, relaxed atmosphere and wide variety of toys and activities, Tigers Too is a great place for little ones to spend their days.
There’s a real ‘family feel’ at Tigers Too. Some of the staff have been with us from the beginning, some have completed their training with us at the Tigers Training Centre and are now in senior roles within the nursery; all are devoted to the well-being of the children and deliver the highest quality care with love. Many younger siblings come to Tigers Too having seen their older brother or sister enjoying their time with us, which contributes to the sense of continuity at the nursery.
We forge strong partnerships with our parents, sharing information about each child’s day, involving them, listening to any concerns and promoting understanding which provides continuity and security for the children. Each child is assigned a key worker and parents are welcome in the nursery at any time to discuss their child’s needs, to look at their child’s work or just for a chat.
At Tigers Too we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) guidelines closely to ensure the health, safety and well-being of every child and to monitor and record their development. Each child has an individual development plan and sets their own pace of learning with the knowledgeable support of our staff. For more information see our Early Years Foundation Stage section.
Our children are happy, active and engaged, growing in independence and confidence. Stimulating toys, messy play, painting, building, dressing up, singing, dancing, story-telling, group activities and lots of outdoor play are all part of the fun at Tigers Too.
Our outdoor area is fitted with safety surfacing and the children have a plenty of outdoor toys and activities to choose from. Being so close to the centre of Thatcham, we make the most of our location, taking the children on regular outings to the parks, library, pet shop and weekly market, where they often buy fruit for their afternoon snack.
Indoors, Tigers Too has a series of rooms, each providing the appropriate stimulation and education for its age group. Our children move on to the next room when ready, not on a pre-determined date. Our high staff to child ratios throughout the nursery enable our team to give each child the attention and support they need.
“They are very flexible, very open and the children’s care is their top priority.”
Sarah H, parent
Our babies start from three months old in the Baby Roos room which is cosy, cheerful and welcoming with plenty of stimulating toys to develop dexterity and reasoning, lots of loving, individual care and a quiet place to rest. We continue each baby’s home feeding routine to minimise disruption.
Our toddlers can be found in the Roos Room, a safe, interactive environment for mobile, inquisitive toddlers where they can start to understand the world around them, try out new things and gain confidence. They learn to share and play together, develop communication skills and always have fun.
At around two, the children move on to the Tiggers Room with new toys and experiences. They enjoy a balanced mix of child-led play where they choose what they want to do and more structured, adult-led activities including creative work and focussed periods when they learn to listen and concentrate. They gain confidence and start to develop their independence. We also handle toilet training here with no pressure and gentle encouragement.
Next comes the Owls Room where we begin to prepare our three to five year-olds for school. We help them to develop independence, self-care and self-confidence and build on their social and communication skills. We introduce them to phonics and working with numbers giving them a great start when they go to school. As always, we make sure the children have plenty of fresh air and exercise, including football training every week. For more information see the Your Child’s Learning Journey section.
We provide a mid-morning snack, two-course lunch and high tea in the afternoon at Tigers Too. All our meals are freshly-prepared using quality ingredients and cooked on-site by our qualified cook. Meals are varied and nutritionally balanced for healthy growth and development and we encourage children to try new things and do things for themselves.
We welcome children with special needs or disabilities and have specialised staff on our team to provide appropriate care, including one-to-one care if needed. We ensure each child is given the opportunity to reach their full potential and is included in all the fun and activities at Tigers Too.
Our children’s safety is paramount. Access to the nursery and to each area within it are strictly controlled and monitored. We insist on the highest standards of cleanliness throughout the nursery. Toys, equipment, furniture and floors are kept spotless, we have hand sanitisers at the entrance to every area and regular deep cleans. We also instil the importance of personal hygiene in our children from the beginning. Emergency procedures are documented and practised regularly and all our electrical equipment is tested regularly. For more information see our Policies and Procedures section.
We are proud of the high standards of care and education provided at Tigers Too and of the many recommendations from parents.
