Meet the team
We have a dedicated and enthusiastic team of professionals that use years of experience to deliver a wonderful experience.
Owner and Founder
Right from the beginning Tigers has delivered outstanding care in a happy, friendly and loving environment, always working in partnership with parents, keeping them informed and involved.
As our business has expanded, our exceptional standards have always remained and we are justifiably proud of our dedicated, knowledgeable and caring staff. All members of our management team share our passion for quality childcare and together we provide the leadership, training, resources and environment for our nursery staff to excel at what they do and to keep Tigers at the forefront of nursery care. Many of our team have been with Tigers for several years, giving continuity and a unique family atmosphere to our nurseries.
Tigers’ ethos is and always has been to provide the best possible experience for each and every child in a safe, stimulating environment supported by loving, friendly staff – something we hold dear to our hearts.
Hello, I’m Jane Tubb, Operations Manager at Tigers Day Nurseries and Training Centre and I am delighted to say that I have been with Tigers since the very beginning, starting out as Nursery Manager.
My role has changed and evolved over the years as the business has developed and I am now privileged to be an integral part of the management team with special responsibility for developing the expertise and knowledge of our staff and planning for the future, always with an eye on maintaining the highest standards in all we do.
There is something very rewarding about seeing your team develop not just professionally, but personally – growing in confidence and taking on responsibility. I love the fact that the whole team takes a pride in what they do, delivering nothing less than the highest quality childcare. I also love it that they enjoy their work, just as I have always done, and that every single member of staff comes in with a can-do attitude each day, ready to give their all to the children in their care.
Senior Nursey Manager
Hi, I’m Nicola Barkhouse, Senior Nursery Manager of Tigers Day Nursery.
I came to Tigers as a placement as part of my NNEB training in 1997 and joined the company in 1999 when I finished my qualification. Since then I have completed my level 4 and level 5 childcare qualifications.
Over the years I have worked with all age groups as a nursery nurse and room senior before becoming a manager. Stepping away from running my own room was a big decision but in my role now I have the best of both worlds as I am able to spend time with the children but also show new parents around the nursery and support the staff to achieve the high standards of care and teaching we offer at Tigers.
One of my roles is the nursery SENDCO and I really enjoy this role as I strongly believe that every child deserves the absolute best start in life and the opportunity to attend Nursery.
In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my five nephews and friends and family.
Deputy Manager Thatcham
Hello, I'm Tracy the Deputy Manager at Tigers.
I started at Tigers in 2001 as a trainee as part of my apprenticeship completing my level 2 and level 3 in childcare. I then had the great opportunity to learn and thrive within the company and progress over the years to become a deputy manager and completing my level 5 in childcare.
I enjoy working closely and building relationships with the staff, children, and parents to help ensure we meet the individual needs of all the children and their families.
I enjoy my role as a deputy manager being able to spend time in the rooms with the children and staff supporting them to help the children thrive. I also have the pleasure to show potential parents around the nursery showing them the great facilities we have to offer at tigers.
In my spare time I love spending time with my family, friends and going to rock concerts.
Hi, I’m Joshua Blunt. My role as Marketing Manager is to develop new opportunities for our business and to spread the word about Tigers’ great day nurseries and our unique training centre.
The standards set throughout the Tigers Group are exceptional and we are rightly proud of the high standing our nursery settings and training centre have within the childcare profession right across the area.
I find my job extremely rewarding as I believe our business achieves the highest levels of professionalism and quality while maintaining strong family values – a real recipe for success and something we can shout about.
I enjoy exploring new ideas for the nurseries, talking them through with parents and children and implementing changes that ensure we always stay at the forefront of nursery care. Tigers is a business that doesn’t stand still, which makes it exciting.
Nursery Manager Swindon
I’m delighted to say I have been Nursery Manager of Swindon Tigers since our first day of opening in 2016. In total I have been managing nurseries for 18 years now.
I’m NNEB trained with a further diploma in Child Psychology, so I draw on all of my experience & knowledge to create the most fun, engaging & most importantly safe environment for all our children & staff members too!
My personal passion is child development. It’s vital to always be looking after the individual needs of your child & tailoring activities to help stimulate development as a guide through the early years foundation stage, ready for their next journey into school. Every child is different but so too is every family unit. I enjoy working with every family closely to cater to their culture, language, dietary requirements.
At Tigers we know it’s a partnership, it’s a bond to help your child grow and I would love to talk to you more about your needs. We would love for you to join our family at Swindon Tigers.
Training Centre Manager
Hi, I’m Julie Matkin and I run the Training Centre at Tigers and have done since it opened in 2011. I was invited to join the team after working previously with Tigers and have always been impressed with the focus on quality in terms of care and training for new and existing staff. I am immensely proud of the standards we achieve which is recognised through our funding provider West Berkshire Training Consortium and CACHE, our Awarding body. We are responsible for training staff from lots of local settings which I feel is an endorsement of the quality of the teaching and qualifications we complete at all levels. We are constantly striving to offer different levels and variations of qualifications to ensure we meet the demand for the highest quality childcare in the area.
Nursery Manager Theale
I am the Manager of Tigers at Theale Day Nursery. Our nursery has a lovely village, community feel and I am proud to be the Manager, working closely with my Deputy Becca and the rest of my staff team.
I qualified as a Level 3 Nursery Nurse in 1998 and completed the Level 4 NVQ in childcare in 2009. I am originally from Manchester but moved to Reading when I met my husband, and joined the nursery soon after. I started as a Nursery Nurse and gained experience with all age groups and in my Managers role I am passionate about the highest quality of care and education for ‘our’ children. I enjoy working closely with parents to ensure we meet the needs of all our families and believe a personal touch goes a long way to establishing good relationships with our families. We work hard on staff training, ensuring our staff have ample opportunities to extend their knowledge and understanding of all aspects of childcare.
When I’m at home I enjoy crafting, reading and spending time with my husband.
